Video final

This is the final cut of our music video which we have produced alongside a digipak and an advert to promote a single from a girl band. The video has been created in order to post modernise the origonal video created by Cyndi Lauper. We have tried to include some similar scenes to those in the orgional video and made them modern by adding a current generation edge. Most of our post modernisation has been created in the post production of our music video. In order to match the conventions of a pop music video, we have included lots of bright colours and used extravagant make up. Certain theories are applied to music videos and throughout the process of ours, we have tried to manipulate them and also challenge them to a degree. For example, we have challenged Laura Mulvey's theory of malegaze by making our female characters not deliberately voyeuristic to males. Our target audience is females and so we want to stress this to a female group without deliberately attracting males to it. We have manipulated Andrew Goodwin's theory of each music video being created to either amplify, illustarte or contradict a text. Our music video uses amplification in order to stress the lyrics of the song to the viewer. In order to demonstrate this, we used aimated lyrics which appear on screen at certain intervals of the song. Alternatively, we have used actions from the actresses in the narrative sequences in order to illustrate the lyrics being sang. When the lyrics 'I wanna be the one to walk in the sun' are sang, the previous clip is of a girl putting her heels on, therefore illustrating what the artist/band is/are singing.
We used both lipsync and narrative within our music video, in order to make the video modern, edgy and intriguing to watch. The lip sync enables us to showcase certain skills that we have obtained through the use of Final Cut. It is also a convention of all videos, in particular, pop videos and so we wanted to stick to these conventions in order to attract our demographic audience. We also included a narrative which was split into different short sequences. The narrative helped to breakdown the long lipsync scenes which would have became boring had we not included some narrative. The narrative again is a convention of music videos which is usually more so a convention in pop videos. Our narrative was of girls getting ready to go out and the things that girls find 'fun' to do. Compared to the lipsync, the camera quality is not as clear due to a different camera being used, however the impact of the scenes remains the same.

Digi Pak

This is our final design for our digipak that we have created alongside our music video and an advert. For our digipak, we wanted to create a link between all three tasks and so used linking themes and colours between them as explained in our evaluation. Our main focus with the digipak was to advertise the band and the debut track whilst appealing to our demographic audience.

Advert

This is the final edit of our advert which we have created alongside a music video and a digipak. All three of our tasks were intened to include a form of brand identity, creating a link between them. We used themes, colours and costumes in order to provide a link between all three texts. The advert was designed to fit an A4 magazine page and was determined to produce a hype for not only the debut single but for the band, the album and the production comapny 'LAA'.

Evaluation question 1

This is our answer to question one of the four evaluation questions that we are going to answer. Within this short video, we have summarised our use of key concepts of music videos and genre conventions. Certain conventions we have manipulated, others we have challenged and some we have followed closely. We explain our main themes, ideas and the thought processes that we took in order to create our promotional package of a music video, digipak and and advert.

Evaluation question 2

This is question 2 of the evaluation questions which is about look back on the ancillary texts that we have created. We decided to produce this answer on Prezi so that it was interestingly created using different forms of media. Through the process of answering this question, we have been able to determine what was good about our ancillary texts and what we could have improved. We were able to re-cap all of the skills that we have learnt, developed and expanded throughout the making of our ancillary texts.

Evaluation question 3

This is question 3 of our evaluation questions in which we analysed some feedback from our audience. We decided to present this question on Prezi also, in order to allow us to use screen grabs of our comments and the media basis that they were taken from. Throughout the process of receiving feedback from our audience, we have been able to look at what our audience want and if we have been successful in giving them that. We were able to compare the feedback on our product with that of our audience research which we carried out before the making of our video, digipak and advert.

Draft answer for evaluation question 1

This is the basic script that Alex created for question 1 of our evaluation questions. We decided to make a script and then video our answer whilst showing the relative clip of the video on an interactive whiteboard. We thought that this would be the most successful way to explain how we have complied, manipulated and challenged media conventions within our production. Throughout the process of making this video, we have been able to look more closely at how stuck to conventions of artists, lyrics and genre and how we challenged other conventions to make the video, modern, exciting and lively.

Rough Cut 2

This is our rough cut which we created half way through the process of creating our promotional package. We used a rough cut in order to gain some peer feeback in a group session one lesson. From our peer feedback we noted that there were both positive and negative points on which we could improve upon whilst editing in the run up to our final cut.
One positive point that was made clear through the peer feedback was that our lipsync was particuarly good as it was in time for the duration of the clip and looked realistic.
A point to improve upon was noted that our shot variety could be improved by using different variations of shot. For example, some medium shots, long shots and more importantly moving shots.
From our peer feedback we could assess how to improve our rough drafting of our video in order to create a more professional, realistic and genre conforming final product.

Test Footage

As a group, we decided to take some test footage so that when we came to film our actual footage we already knew how to work equipment and technology. The test footage allowed us to test some of our designs for the background

Planning our Advert

We have decided that our advert should closely link with both the digipak and the actual music video. We feel that its important to incorporate the same type of images, font, text and colour in order to represent the band as a whole unit and promote the video in as many ways as possible.

COLOUR
Our primary colour will be purple as this is a key colour in the music video and also the central colour within our digipak aswell. Purple incorporates the girly fun edge which we have included in our video and has connotations of being a very feminine colour. This stands out against a plain black background which demonstrates the main information and makes them more noticable to the audiences.

IMAGE
Our anchoring image is of all three members of the band striking a pose. Again the way in which we have constructed the advert allows for a very similar approach as the digipak does. Each member of the band is placed in front of a letter from the word 'FUN' like on the front panel of our digipak. The band members are the main image and so they are centrally anchored to be the first image that the audience can see.

Possible CD Design

This particular design was created by Leah using Photoshop. As a production company we really wanted to enforce that there were three different personalities to the band. I think that by using a facial piece of each member of the band encapsulates the three different essences of the band. The images are very bright, imaginative and 'fun' which is the key message of the songs lyrics, which we wanted to amplify throughout our video, digipak and our advert. The animated expressions cohere with the uplifting tempo of the song and suggest that the members of the band are having fun like the song expresses. All images that we have used within both our video, digipak and analysis have been linked in the way that they were presented. Our main visual idea is to have the three members of the band represented equally against the title of the single 'FUN'. We have utilised this is all three aspects of our promotion with the main emphasis being within the digipak and the advert.

Inside Left, Inside Right and Middle Digipak Panels

We discussed that these pages will be glamorous individual images of each of us which will also show the different personalities of the band and the three different styles of us girls as not every girl is the same. This will show the audience a more personal image of us and this technique has been used throughout the genres of music to develop an individual fan base within the band. The images will be of us dressed in smart going out clothes, our hair and make up will be immaculate just how it is on a high class, professional images. The backgrounds will be different colours that will be bright, as this has been used within our music video.

Back Pane of Digipak

COLOUR
On the back cover of the digipak we need to make sure that the background colour is matched with another colour that we have used within the digipak. Our colours will be girly, feminine and striking so that it matches coherently with the conventions of girly pop. Our main colour which we will use will be pink as this is the predominant feminine colour that is showcased through our video.

FONT
We decided that the font used on the back pane should be clear and not too overly crowded with images or any decoration. The text will display the names of our single track and the eleven other tracks that we intend to include on our album. The font which we use for the text on this pane will match the text used on the front so that the text all links together.

COPYRIGHT & LOGO
All of our copyright will be displayed at the bottom of the digipak on the back cover in small writing. This is a legal document which must be displayed alongside the barcode. The barcode will be situated on the bottom right hand side of the digipak in order to coincide with the conventions of other digipaks. Our logo will also be displayed on the back cover of the our production company "LAA" which will market our company aswell as the album. This will help to promote our production company aswell as the band and

Digipak Front Cover Ideas

COLOUR
We feel that we need to keep a close link to the video when it comes to the type of colour that we intend to use. In the video we have a lot of bright multicolored backgrounds that change as the thought beats switch. We want to incorporate this into our digipak in order to keep a link between the two, whether this be through using a multicolored background or one bold colour that has been used in the video.

MISE-EN-SCENE
On our digipak we plan to wear very smart going out clothing that we would normally wear on a night out. We will each be wearing our style of clothing which will represent our different personalities within the band. Within the video we are getting ready to go out or having a girly sleepover doing make up and so on, therefore we have decided to incorporate the girls getting ready to go out type of situation on the front of our digipak.

ANCHORING IMAGE
We decided that our anchoring image should incorporate everything that the music video does. In this instance we have used images of all three members of the band along with animated lyrics. We plan to use the lyrics "FUN" with each female artist standing or sitting in a pose against each individual letter. we feel this would be an eye catching image to use as our text is the predominant image from the cover, with all three artists being the secondary image.

Animatic

This is the animatic for our different scenes within the music video shoot. Our shot list and shooting schedule display more detailed shots that we plan to use within our music video. This animatic, however, allows us to demonstrate what our ideas are for the wider themes and scenes that we understand are crucial to our music video.

Rogue Traders - Inspiration Shots

This particular shot would be very useful in our video. The large mouth being the only visual focus on the screen will enable us to emphasise the lip sync aspect to our video. However, we would change the colour from a metallic rock chic red to a bright pop pink in order to keep with the connotations of 80's modern pop.

This shot we felt as a group would be good in order to inlude different post production techniques. This shot holds some serious aspects from this song and so using this to the lyrics "Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world" would allow us to make the video more serious for such a serious point in the song. However, animations can be added in order to keep the fun side to the video maintained throughout.

Again this shot is one from which we could take inspiration. We like the idea of using the sunglasses as a vocal point which we have planned to use in another shot too. This would make the sunglasses become a motif of the video which by using over the top colourful shades would stick to the genre of pop. Again we plan to enhance the colour and make this shot not as serious as in this video, perhaps a funny face could be used to lighten the shot and make it suit the "fun" theme of our song more.
