Test Footage

As a group, we decided to take some test footage so that when we came to film our actual footage we already knew how to work equipment and technology. The test footage allowed us to test some of our designs for the background

Planning our Advert

We have decided that our advert should closely link with both the digipak and the actual music video. We feel that its important to incorporate the same type of images, font, text and colour in order to represent the band as a whole unit and promote the video in as many ways as possible.

COLOUR
Our primary colour will be purple as this is a key colour in the music video and also the central colour within our digipak aswell. Purple incorporates the girly fun edge which we have included in our video and has connotations of being a very feminine colour. This stands out against a plain black background which demonstrates the main information and makes them more noticable to the audiences.

IMAGE
Our anchoring image is of all three members of the band striking a pose. Again the way in which we have constructed the advert allows for a very similar approach as the digipak does. Each member of the band is placed in front of a letter from the word 'FUN' like on the front panel of our digipak. The band members are the main image and so they are centrally anchored to be the first image that the audience can see.

Possible CD Design

This particular design was created by Leah using Photoshop. As a production company we really wanted to enforce that there were three different personalities to the band. I think that by using a facial piece of each member of the band encapsulates the three different essences of the band. The images are very bright, imaginative and 'fun' which is the key message of the songs lyrics, which we wanted to amplify throughout our video, digipak and our advert. The animated expressions cohere with the uplifting tempo of the song and suggest that the members of the band are having fun like the song expresses. All images that we have used within both our video, digipak and analysis have been linked in the way that they were presented. Our main visual idea is to have the three members of the band represented equally against the title of the single 'FUN'. We have utilised this is all three aspects of our promotion with the main emphasis being within the digipak and the advert.

Inside Left, Inside Right and Middle Digipak Panels

We discussed that these pages will be glamorous individual images of each of us which will also show the different personalities of the band and the three different styles of us girls as not every girl is the same. This will show the audience a more personal image of us and this technique has been used throughout the genres of music to develop an individual fan base within the band. The images will be of us dressed in smart going out clothes, our hair and make up will be immaculate just how it is on a high class, professional images. The backgrounds will be different colours that will be bright, as this has been used within our music video.

Back Pane of Digipak

COLOUR
On the back cover of the digipak we need to make sure that the background colour is matched with another colour that we have used within the digipak. Our colours will be girly, feminine and striking so that it matches coherently with the conventions of girly pop. Our main colour which we will use will be pink as this is the predominant feminine colour that is showcased through our video.

FONT
We decided that the font used on the back pane should be clear and not too overly crowded with images or any decoration. The text will display the names of our single track and the eleven other tracks that we intend to include on our album. The font which we use for the text on this pane will match the text used on the front so that the text all links together.

COPYRIGHT & LOGO
All of our copyright will be displayed at the bottom of the digipak on the back cover in small writing. This is a legal document which must be displayed alongside the barcode. The barcode will be situated on the bottom right hand side of the digipak in order to coincide with the conventions of other digipaks. Our logo will also be displayed on the back cover of the our production company "LAA" which will market our company aswell as the album. This will help to promote our production company aswell as the band and

Digipak Front Cover Ideas

COLOUR
We feel that we need to keep a close link to the video when it comes to the type of colour that we intend to use. In the video we have a lot of bright multicolored backgrounds that change as the thought beats switch. We want to incorporate this into our digipak in order to keep a link between the two, whether this be through using a multicolored background or one bold colour that has been used in the video.

MISE-EN-SCENE
On our digipak we plan to wear very smart going out clothing that we would normally wear on a night out. We will each be wearing our style of clothing which will represent our different personalities within the band. Within the video we are getting ready to go out or having a girly sleepover doing make up and so on, therefore we have decided to incorporate the girls getting ready to go out type of situation on the front of our digipak.

ANCHORING IMAGE
We decided that our anchoring image should incorporate everything that the music video does. In this instance we have used images of all three members of the band along with animated lyrics. We plan to use the lyrics "FUN" with each female artist standing or sitting in a pose against each individual letter. we feel this would be an eye catching image to use as our text is the predominant image from the cover, with all three artists being the secondary image.

Animatic

This is the animatic for our different scenes within the music video shoot. Our shot list and shooting schedule display more detailed shots that we plan to use within our music video. This animatic, however, allows us to demonstrate what our ideas are for the wider themes and scenes that we understand are crucial to our music video.

Rogue Traders - Inspiration Shots

This particular shot would be very useful in our video. The large mouth being the only visual focus on the screen will enable us to emphasise the lip sync aspect to our video. However, we would change the colour from a metallic rock chic red to a bright pop pink in order to keep with the connotations of 80's modern pop.

This shot we felt as a group would be good in order to inlude different post production techniques. This shot holds some serious aspects from this song and so using this to the lyrics "Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world" would allow us to make the video more serious for such a serious point in the song. However, animations can be added in order to keep the fun side to the video maintained throughout.

Again this shot is one from which we could take inspiration. We like the idea of using the sunglasses as a vocal point which we have planned to use in another shot too. This would make the sunglasses become a motif of the video which by using over the top colourful shades would stick to the genre of pop. Again we plan to enhance the colour and make this shot not as serious as in this video, perhaps a funny face could be used to lighten the shot and make it suit the "fun" theme of our song more.

Cyndi Lauper - Inspiration Shots

Some of the shots we are plnning to use within our video are going to be post modernised versions of the original scene. For example, this particular shot is like a motif for the song and we would like to keep some of these features in our modern version. A lot of our video will be 80's inspired with a modern touch to it, much like the fashion that surrounds us these days being vintage.

This is another scene from the origional music video which we would like to include within our music adaptation. We feel that this clip embellishes the nature of girls together, sticking in a group and having fun. The group of girls are all within the same age range, wearing similar clothing to each other which again presents the themes.

This particular shot in the video is repeated through several different actresses. We hope to achieve this iconic scene with the same but modernised iconic mise en scene. I think that the jewellery and shades capture the essence of the song and the still rely on the 80's theme to tell the narrative along with adding to the performance.

Plan For Audience Research

Questions
1) What would you expect to see in a modern adaptation of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"?
2) Do you think this would be successful?
3) What genre of music do you prefer?
4) Any particular bands/artists?

Who will we target?
For the most part we plan to target teenage girls as they will be our main demographic audience. However, we also plan to speak to some of the older generation who could give us their opinions on if a modern adaptation would work and what they would like to see in it. In addition, we plan to ask some male members of the public so that we can widen our audiences and attract some males to our video also.

How will this help?
Our main aim of completing this research is to be able to see if there is interest in post modernised videos. We also wanted to get a first hand opinion of what people would expect to see in the video so that we could include these ideas within the video therefore giving the audience what they want. By asking about their favourite genre we will be able to see if the pop genre is still popular amongst our demographic audience as it was in the 80's. Overall, this research will help us to reach our demographic audience in the most successful way possible and enable us to include features within our video that will appeal to them.
